MARCH BIRTH FLOWER

The daffodil is the March birth flower. Daffodils have the flower meaning of rebirth, respect, regard and unrequited love. The daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, therefore it is a symbol of rebirth.

The March birth flower, daffodil, is the common English name for all narcissus plants

The name daffodil is a derivitave of affodell, which is a variant of asphodel. The Latin name for the daffodil is narcissus. Narcissus are also referred to as jonquils in North America. The March birth flower is poisonous if eaten. The daffodil is the emblem of Wales and is worn on St David's Day. For spring flowers the daffodil is one of the best bulbs to plant. As the daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, it has the flower meaning of hope.

Daffodil commonly refers to narcissus with large trumpets, but may be used for all types of narcissus. The March birth flower daffodil that is commonly known, is yellow with a sweet frangrance. It is native to the mediterranean, but has been cultivated all over the world as a decorative plant.

The daffodil is a perennial grown from a bulb. It can reach heights of two feet. The daffodil is a dependable spring flower and a favorite for its long life and colorful blooms. In England the daffodil birth flower is known as the lent lily because it blooms during lent.

MARCH BIRTH STONE

The birthstone for the month of March is the Aquamarine. Therefore it makes a good stone for those of you who are born in the month of March.

The name is derived from the words "aqua" and "mare" meaning sea water.
This stone is part of the beryl family.

The stone color ranges from slight icy blue to pastel greenish blue. These stones are found mainly in Brazil, but are also found at other places around the world such as Nigeria, Madagascar, Mozambique and Zambia.

BENEFITS
The Aquamarine was said to be a lucky stone for sailors, since it ensured a safe journey by water. This stone was also supposed to renew married love. It was also believed that this stone ensured a long and happy married life.

The Egyptians, the Romans and the Greeks placed great value on the powers of this stone. They said that the stone invoked the water spirits, ensuring the safe journey by sea.

fon This stone is considered to be a symbol of everlasting youth and therefore was quite prized. It was also said to contain magical and healing properties. Soothsayers and Fortune Tellers used this stone as the source of their power. The stone is said to cause good sleep and cure eye trouble. Since the aquamarine resembles the ocean, it was said to give the wearer a purity of body and spirit.

SMALLMOUTH BASS!

Size Capability
A 2.3 kg smallmouth is considered a trophy throughout most of its range.

Smallmouth Bass Lures
Hair jig and pork trailer (fly and rind), leadhead grub, soft plastic crawfish, small diving crankbait, topwater - minnow lure and stickbait, soft jerkbait, metal bladebait, metal tailspinner, jigging spoon.
www.bassresource.com

The smallmouth (Micropterus dolomieui) is more bronze or brown in color than the largemouth, and its side markings look like vertical bars (tiger striped). Also, it has a smaller mouth than the largemouth, and its jaw does not extend beyond the eye. The eye has red in it and the largemouths don't. Smallmouths prefer deeper, clearer, cooler water with rocky structure. They are seldom found in stagnant ponds or murky lakes shallower than 25 feet.

In addition to clear waters, the smallmouth bass loves to hold in a moderately swift current. In rivers and streams they stay away from the swiftest sections, where the trout might hold, but prefer pools with a noticeable current to those that are completely stagnant. Like their cousins, smallmouths like heavy structure, such a boulders, rock beds, tree trunks and bridge abutments, but stay away from the heavy weedbeds that largemouths love so much.

Crawfish and insects are mainstays in their diet. But they do eat baitfish when available. The world record smallmouth weighed 11 pounds, 15 ounces, and most state records are between 7 and 9 pounds. Ninety percent of all smallmouths live in water deeper than 15 feet if they can get to it and have access to deeper water. Remember to fish deep - the bank just keeps the water in the lake!

WHAT ARE THE VAAL DAM LEVELS?

CONSTRUCTION of the VAAL DAM

Level: 22.575
Volume: 2619
Percentage: 100.6%
Flow: 274
Rainfall: 0
Last updates: 25 Feb 2010

The construction of Vaal Dam started during the depression of the early thirties and the dam was completed in 1938 with a wall height of 54.2m above lowest foundation and a full supply capacity of 994 million m3.

The dam is a concrete gravity structure with an earthfill section on the right flank. It was built as a joint venture by Rand Water and the Department of Irrigation (now known as the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry). The dam was subsequently raised in the early fifties to a height of 60.3m which increased the capacity to 2 188 million m3.

A second raising took place in 1985 when the wall was raised by a further 3.05m to 63.4m above lowest foundation. The capacity of the

dam is currently 2 536 million m3 and a

further 663 million m3 or 26% can be stored temporarily for flood attenuation.

Vaal Dam forms the central storage reservoir for the Vaal River water supply system which supplies water to the industrial powerhouse of the whole country.

The area supplied from the Vaal River System, generates more than 50% of South Africa's gross geographical product (GGP), more than 80% of the country's electricity and includes some of the largest gold, platinum and coal mines in the world. Vaal Dam is therefore of great importance to South Africa and a key component of the water supply infrastructure for Gauteng and the surrounding provinces.
