Pack your fishing gear and book a break away week-end at the Vaalnest Boutique Hotel at Vaal Marina, Vaal Dam. We are just an hour’s drive from Johannesburg.
Fishing enthusiasts often visit our hotel and besides their stories about the biggest catch, they sometimes share bait secrets. These ones are for carp:

Premium Carp Bait
Ingredients
1 can blended creamed corn
2 cups cornmeal
1 cup cornflakes crumbs
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions
Before making this bait recipe, mix the cornmeal and cornstarch in a bowl and set aside. The blended creamed corn needs to be heated till it is bubbling. Now add sugar to the simmering mixture and slowly add the cornmeal mix. When the mixture turns into a thick paste, remove it off the heat and let it cool for five minutes before adding the cornflake crumbs. Mix it thoroughly and let it cool down to room temperature before using it.

Cornmeal and Carp Bait
Ingredients
Can of whole corn
Vanilla extract
Directions
The cans of corn usually contain water. For the recipe you need to drain the water away leaving only five percent in the can. Pour the vanilla extract into the can till the mixture turns a yellowish brown. Shake the can and let the corn absorb the vanilla.

Simple Dough Bait Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
Vanilla extract
1 cup water
Directions
This is one of the best grass carp bait recipes. For making this bait, you need to add the flour and the cornmeal in a large bowl. In a pot, add vanilla extract to one cup of water and bring it to boil. To the boiling water, add the flour and cornmeal mixture. Once the water is absorbed, take the pot off the heat. Once your dough mixture is cooled you need to knead and mush it so that it is thick enough to stay on the hook.
